Sen. Rubio Argues Americans Must Resist “Cultural Marxists” Who Seek To Destroy Families

Introducing a report highlighting the major left-wing cultural forces undermining American families, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio urged conservatives to rally behind policies that would help shield them from liberal excesses.

Introducing a report highlighting the major left-wing cultural forces undermining American families, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio urged conservatives to rally behind policies that would help shield them from liberal excesses.

The Virginia-based American Principles Project recently released its survey of the 25 biggest threats to families. Besides Rubio, contributors to the report included GOP Sens. Josh Hawley, Marsha Blackburn, and Mike Lee.

Rubio penned the report’s intro, noting that “(a)ncient tradition, modern social science, and common sense all agree” that strong, intact families are the core of any society.

The Florida Republican maintained that family life is under assault from “cultural Marxists,” who despite being a “small minority of the population” still have “an outsized influence in our elite institutions, from the academy and the media to Hollywood and Silicon Valley.” “Following their cultural lead,” Rubio noted, “upscale liberals now push the Marxists’ anti-American, anti-family agenda at every level of society.”

The pandemic revealed how serious this threat from the far left is, Rubio argued. It showed up in school closures, for example, which were implemented far longer than elsewhere in the world “to satisfy liberal paranoia,” he added. “The social and psychological damage inflicted on children, who were at reduced risk from COVID in the first place, will have lasting consequences for years to come,” Rubio argued.

Then he noted that “woke activists” have hijacked the public education system “to divide the country, tear down religion, and replace the family with the state.”

“Our children were indoctrinated with the destructive idea that every social interaction is based on race. They were told that if they have a mom and a dad, they are members of an oppressive class. And they were subjected to shocking and inappropriate depictions of gender and sexuality. What were recently fringe theories have increasingly entered the mainstream of school curricula,” Rubio wrote.

The left, he added, has unveiled its “blatant totalitarianism” and disdain for local community-based institutions like churches and police departments by forcing families to bend to the liberal will. This is shown by blue states’ bans on in-home church meetings, declaring Planned Parenthood an “essential service,” defunding police, and having authorities remove children from their homes when parents refused gender transition “therapies.”

“This has no place in America. But those who dare speak out against it will find themselves condemned by the legacy media and canceled by Big Tech,” he said.

“Companies like Google, TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter censor conservative voices and spread Marxist propaganda. Meanwhile, they keep our kids hooked on addictive, corrosive content to expand their profit margins. Millions of young people are currently suffering from depression, anxiety, and loneliness, all enhanced by social media use.”

“It is no wonder that suicide and drug use rates are on the rise.”

Leftists, Rubio continued, push “a policy consensus that disempowers Americans from standing up to them.” Rescuing children, then, requires resisting and reining in that consensus.

“More generally, to push back against the far left, we will have to build a new economic consensus that values Americans as workers, family members, religious believers, and members of their communities, not just as consumers,” Rubio maintained.

To do that, for instance, Rubio said parents must get involved in schools, policymakers must crack down on Big Tech and laws should make the stability of American families a priority, as shown by a plan by Sen. Lee and himself to double the child tax credit for working families.

“America is under attack. It is also at a crossroads. We have the strength, the resources, and the creativity to make the 21st century a new American Century, with healthy, flourishing families at its heart. But we could also be the generation that witnesses cultural Marxism usher in America’s decline,” Rubio concluded.

“The choice is ours. I hope and pray for the sake of my family, and for families across the country, that we make the right one.”

According to the APP, the 25 top threats to families include many of the usual suspects, including President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Big Tech, the liberal media and teachers’ unions.

But topping the list, APP President Terry Schilling noted: “sell-out” Republicans who shy away from the culture war and instead want to make the GOP “a moderate party of unilateral disarmament.”

“It must end. In 2022, Republicans are set up for a Tea-Party-sized electoral wave. We need to ask ourselves: what type of politicians will be replacing anti-family, anti-American Democrats?” Schilling added. “Every Republican should be aware that a vote against families means the end of their career.”
