In an in-depth interview on SiriusXM’s “Clay and Buck,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio detailed the Trump administration’s bold foreign policy initiatives as he prepared for a series of high-stakes diplomatic engagements.
Rubio touched on everything from the conflict in Ukraine to shifting dynamics in the Middle East and even shared a personal fatherly moment at the close of the conversation.
Rubio began by discussing President Trump’s determination to end the war in Ukraine. “The President wants it to end,” Rubio asserted, emphasizing that while the process may start with a ceasefire, it must evolve into a comprehensive solution involving aid corridors and safeguards for energy infrastructure.

He noted that Trump’s recent call with Vladimir Putin marked the first direct presidential dialogue with the Russian leader in over two years and signaled a renewed effort to rebuild communication channels.
Rubio explained that upcoming meetings in Europe—including discussions in Munich and planned conversations with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy—are part of an intensive diplomatic push. “We’ll have to wait for the Russians to identify their counterparts,” he said, underscoring that global participation is essential.
“The US is going to have a stake in Ukraine’s long-term independence,” Rubio added, outlining plans for economic partnerships that could help offset the billions spent in the region and aid in rebuilding its infrastructure.
The conversation shifted to the Middle East, where Rubio elaborated on the administration’s framework for addressing the situation in Gaza and broader regional conflicts.
Acknowledging the challenges posed by groups like Hamas, he stressed that any viable plan must exclude such elements to be acceptable to Israel and the international community. Rubio described the ongoing discussions among Arab nations, including upcoming meetings in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Israel, as critical to formulating a lasting peace.

Turning to the U.S.-Mexico border, Rubio detailed efforts to curb human and drug trafficking.
“We want to stop the human trafficking and the fentanyl,” he explained, noting coordinated initiatives with state leaders like Pam Bondi and Kristi Noem. Rubio emphasized the importance of collaborative action on both sides of the border, aiming to stem the flow of drugs and illegal migration and to address cartel gun-running.
Throughout the interview, Rubio contrasted the decisive, action-oriented approach of the Trump administration with previous administrations. “Biden and Trump are not even in the same universe,” he declared, highlighting Trump’s direct communication style and willingness to follow through on promises. Rubio credited the President’s clarity for fostering stronger responses from foreign leaders and streamlining negotiations in volatile regions.
