Search Underway For Tampa Murder Suspect; Sheriff Urges Caution

TAMPA, Fla. - The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has identified a suspect in connection to a homicide investigation in Tampa.

TAMPA, Fla. – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has identified a suspect in connection to a homicide investigation in Tampa.

Through investigative means, detectives determined that Joel Elkanah Jr., 25, is a suspect in this investigation.

Elkanah currently has an active warrant for 1st Degree Murder with a Firearm.

On Friday, deputies responded to the report of a shooting on the 12100 block of Nebraska Avenue just after 7 p.m. When deputies arrived, they located a victim with multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim was taken to a local hospital and later pronounced deceased.

“As our investigation continues, I urge anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to come forward immediately,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “While we believe this to be an isolated incident at this time, Elkanah Jr. is considered armed and dangerous, and we are dedicated to ensuring he is arrested for his crime.”

Anyone who comes in contact with him is urged to use caution and call 911.
