In the real world, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has touted the effectiveness of paying law enforcement officers from other states bonuses to move to the Sunshine State.

Last week, the Republican governor announced that the state had paid more than 2,265 bonuses of $5,000 each through the Florida Law Enforcement Recruitment Bonus Program, which has gathered new recruits from 48 states.

“Through the Law Enforcement Recruitment Bonus Program,” DeSantis said in a statement, “we are ensuring that our law enforcement officers don’t have to think twice about the decision to support their families in a state that puts them first.”

But DeSantis is also paying bonuses of a different kind in the satire world of The Babylon Bee.

DeSantis, the conservative  website “reported,” has enacted “a law that will award citizens $10,000 for using the wrong pronouns on an individual.”

“Funding for Florida’s Wrong Pronouns Reward Act will come from fining individuals $10,000 who have the ‘In This House We Believe’ yard sign in their yard,” the Bee added.

In the Bee’s take, DeSantis said, “Florida, like America, is a land of opportunity for anyone willing to stand up against woke political correctness. And as President, I vow to grow the middle class through the strategic utilization of rewarding wrong pronoun usage for every state.”

The Bee added: “The new law already seems to be making a difference in the lives of everyday Floridians. One Florida man has earned $3.2 million in a 15-minute stretch by blurting out wrong pronouns while riding his bike through the Gender Studies wing of a local community college.”

“At publishing time, Governor DeSantis had also outlawed bringing anyone under the age of 18 into Target.”

In a case of satire imitating reality, the Bee noted that DeSantis’ fake reward program came on a day when Michigan lawmakers passed an all-too-real bill that would make it a felony for using the wrong pronouns.

That bill would send someone to prison for up to five years and impose a fine of up to $10,000.
