Missing Swimmer’s Body Recovered On Siesta Key: 23-Year-Old Sarasota Man

SARASOTA, Fla. – The body of the missing 23-year-old male, Jose Daniel Venta Ciro, of Sarasota, was recovered late Monday afternoon in the area of 9150 Blind Pass Rd. on Siesta Key.

A passing boater notified the sheriff’s office, which was already conducting recovery efforts for the missing swimmer approximately ¼ mile north of where the body was located.

The remains were positively identified as the missing swimmer from photographs provided to the sheriff’s office for the search.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) and the Sarasota County Fire Department (SCFD) responded to swimmers in distress at Turtle Beach, 8918 Midnight Pass Road, Sarasota. SCFD personnel arrived first and observed two swimmers in distress Sunday.

One swimmer was rescued; the other went underwater, and rescuers were unable to locate the person.

Air, marine, and land assets from the SCSO, SCFD, and United States Coast Guard responded to search for the swimmer. After searching throughout the evening, the search was suspended.
