Sarasota Police Department Welcomes Two New K-9 Teams

SARASOTA, Fla. – The Sarasota Police Department has welcomed two new K-9s to the team.

K-9 Bruin and K-9 Brody recently completed more than 600 hours of training and are both currently assigned to the Sarasota Police Department Patrol Division.

According to Sarasota Police Department, K-9 Brody is a two-year-old Belgian Malinois and German Shepherd mix from Hungary and was born in April 2020.

K-9 Brody and his handler, Officer Jacob Nelson, completed 640 hours of intense training, including tracking, building and area searches, criminal apprehension, obedience, and agility. 

Officer Nelson joined the Sarasota Police Department K-9 Unit in 2014 and is certified by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement as a K-9 trainer and handler.

K-9 Bruin is a two-year-old Belgian Malinois and German Shepherd mix from Hungary and he was born in May 2020.

Officer Bearden joined the Sarasota Police Department K-9 Unit in 2021 and is also certified by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement as a K-9 handler.
