SARASOTA, Fla. – Sarasota Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened around 6:30 PM Saturday.
Police say the shooting happened in the 2400 block of Bay St. in Sarasota.
In a press conference Saturday, Sarasota Police Chief Rieser said that an officer was responding to a disturbance of a woman screaming and shots fired.
The preliminary investigation says that when the officer arrived at the scene, a white male shot and killed a white female.
The officer at the scene used his service weapon and fired upon the male suspect. The male suspect was killed.
However, Chief Rieser stated that it wasn’t yet clear if the man was killed by the deputy’s rounds or died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The officer involved was not injured, according to the Chief of Police.
The officer that was involved has been placed on administrative leave, pending the investigation.
