SARASOTA, Fla. – The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office will be participating in the 2025 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, which will travel through Sarasota County on Friday, April 11, 2025.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is an annual event dedicated to raising awareness and funds for the Special Olympics. Special Olympics Florida works to empower individuals with intellectual disabilities, enabling them to participate as valued and contributing members of society while increasing public understanding of their abilities and needs.

Members of the Sheriff’s Office and Special Olympics athletes will participate in the run, which will proceed along U.S. 41. The run will begin at 8:00 a.m. at Gulf Gate Pavilion and head north until the torch is handed off to the Sarasota Police Department in front of Paradise Plaza at the intersection of Bay and Bee Ridge Roads.

Motorists are advised that traffic delays are possible on U.S. 41 between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Drivers may wish to avoid the area during this time or allow extra time for their travel.

Each year, more than 5,000 law enforcement officers participate in the Torch Run, carrying the torch through 60 Florida counties in a 1,500-mile relay.
