Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Man For Attempted Homicide In Venice Shooting

VENICE, Fla. – The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) arrested 21-year-old Micah Redding for attempted homicide following a shooting late Friday night in Venice. The incident occurred at approximately 11:11 p.m. near Fallow Road and E. Baffin Drive.

Deputies responding to the scene discovered a female victim with gunshot wounds. She was airlifted to Sarasota Memorial Hospital by Bayflight for treatment.

Investigators determined that the shooting stemmed from a dispute at a residence. After the incident, Redding fled in a vehicle but later crashed near mile marker 198 on northbound I-75.

The SCSO Aviation Unit assisted in locating Redding after he fled the crash site on foot. He was ultimately taken into custody. The sheriff’s office Emergency Response Team later found evidence believed to be linked to the crime.

The SCSO Criminal Investigation Section is actively investigating the case.
