Sarasota Appoints Committee To Update Downtown Master Plan

SARASOTA, Fla. – The City of Sarasota has formed a committee to help shape the future of its downtown area.

The City Commission recently appointed 13 individuals to serve on the Downtown Master Plan Update Ad Hoc Committee. This committee will play a key role in updating the city’s Downtown Master Plan, which was last revised in 2001.

The committee’s responsibilities include:

  • Providing input to consultants: The committee will collaborate with consultants hired to update the master plan, offering insights and recommendations.
  • Reviewing plan policies and elements: They will analyze and provide feedback on the plan’s policies and elements to ensure they align with the community’s vision for the future of downtown.
  • Public engagement: The committee will facilitate public meetings to gather input from residents and stakeholders.

The current Downtown Master Plan, adopted in 2001, has been successful in guiding the development of a vibrant and walkable downtown. This update will build on that success and address new challenges and opportunities.

The committee is expected to hold its initial organizational meeting soon, after which the consultant solicitation and selection process will begin.

This initiative demonstrates the city’s commitment to engaging the community in shaping the future of its downtown area.

  • Bill Waddill

Each Ad Hoc Committee Member will be sworn into office then an initial organizational meeting scheduled.
