RIVERVIEW, Fla. – Drivers in the Riverview area should be prepared for a major road closure at the intersection of US 301 and Gibsonton Drive/Boyette Road starting Friday night, February 28th, 2025. The closure is part of a project to improve the intersection and repave US 301.

The Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) contractor, Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, will be replacing the existing asphalt pavement with a more durable concrete surface. The work will be done in phases, with the first phase expected to last approximately 21 days.

During this initial phase, a section of Gibsonton Drive to the west of US 301 will be completely closed. Northbound and southbound travel lanes on US 301 through the intersection will also be reduced.

Motorists will be detoured around the work zone using Riverview Drive, US 41, and Symmes Road. Other nearby roads, including Rhodine Road, Balm Riverview Road, McMullen Road, and Boyette Road, can also be used as alternate routes.

While the interstate ramps at I-75 and Gibsonton Drive will remain open, FDOT is encouraging drivers to use Big Bend Road (CR 672) and US 301 as alternative routes to avoid potential congestion.

Access to businesses, residences, and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the construction. However, drivers should anticipate significant traffic delays and congestion on all nearby roads during this closure.

This project is part of ongoing efforts to improve safety and traffic flow in the area. The entire project is expected to take approximately 140 days to complete.
