A Rhode Island voter who previously identified as a “Never Trumper” said Monday she plans to vote for former President Donald Trump due to the Democratic Party’s handling of President Joe Biden.

Biden dropped out and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris on July 21 after his poor debate performance against Trump prompted panic about his age and mental fitness. The voter, on journalist Mark Halperin’s “The Morning Meeting,” expressed doubt that Biden is “making the decisions” in office and criticized Democrats for enabling the current situation, saying a podcast she listened to influenced her choice to vote for Trump.

“Every single thing that I’m concerned about, they were talking about, and I haven’t really heard so much of it. Like what’s going on and who’s the president, who’s making the decisions in America, ’cause it certainly can’t be Biden,” she said, adding, “They were looking at the American public and saying, ‘Why aren’t you holding these Democrats — aren’t you concerned you don’t have an acting president?’ And that is a huge concern for me, but everybody’s so caught up in, I don’t know, arguing with each other, I guess.”

Halperin asked the voter if she had ever cast a ballot for Trump.

“I was honestly a Never Trumper. I never ever thought I was going to do it,” she answered. “That’s not the only reason. I was with No Labels and the Democratic operatives, and a lot of Democratic, you know, previous senators and congressmen did a lot to prevent anybody from accepting the nomination … I haven’t really seen that really ugly side of politics before.”

“I’m sure the Republicans must do it too, but I was caught up in all this Democratic — And the stuff that they’re also doing, that the Democrats are doing, with, you know, hiding this for like two years, three years, and nobody seems to have ever seen …  I mean, I know Trump just can’t control his emotions, but what the Democrats are doing across the board, I mean, there must be some group of Democrats who I’m not going to name right now, who are in the room, I don’t know if they’re smoking cigars or what they’re doing, but they’re making these decisions that, you know, we’re not going to have Biden primaried, and then we’re going to do this to prevent anybody from primarying,” she added. “And then we’re going to — we all know that there’s a little —  but he’ll make it through the election, whatever they have been deciding.”

The voter also said she wants to “know who’s running the country” and does not think Harris would be in control if she were to win the election against Trump. The former president is currently leading Harris slightly in five of the top seven swing states, according to the RealClear Polling averages.

Halperin said earlier on “The Morning Meeting” Monday that early voting is a worrisome indicator for Harris’ chances of defeating Trump.

“My sense of the early vote is it is not as disastrous as it was in the first three days to the Democrats, but it’s still really bad,” he said.
