CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. – The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in obtaining information surrounding a horrific animal abuse case.

On April 27, 2022, around 4 p.m., Citrus County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for service from a citizen who had noticed a black bag on the side of the road off of W. Horace Allen Street in Lecanto.

After stopping to pick up the black bag, the individual noticed a strong odor coming from the bag, which was also leaking some type of liquid.

Once a deputy arrived on scene, they cut open the bag to find a deceased dog inside. The animal had apparent signs of abuse.

The dog is described as a neutered adult male, 25 lbs. with long hair.  The color is mostly black, but he does have reddish-brown front and back legs with either tan or beige hair on his chest and stomach.

His tail is a short stub approximately 2-3″ long with short, floppy ears that fold over.

“Our Animal Control Officers will continue to investigate this case. However, we are asking anyone with information regarding the animal involved, possible owner, or seeing this garbage bag disposed of at this location, please contact our office at 352-249-2790,” said Citrus County Sheriff’s Office.

“Help us find the person responsible for the suffering and death of this precious animal,” said CCSO.

Citizens may also contact Citrus County Crime Stoppers at 1-888-ANY-TIPS or crimestopperscitrus.com to be eligible for a $1,000 reward.
