Republican Presidential candidate Steve Laffey is responding after the U.S. Energy Department report found that the COVID-19 pandemic likely originated from an accidental lab leak in China.
The U.S. Energy Department “has concluded that the Covid pandemic most likely arose from a laboratory leak” in Wuhan, China, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal Sunday.
The Journal called this a “shift” for the department. Previously, the Energy Department was undecided and noncommittal about the origins of the virus that has killed more than 1 million Americans and upended normal life in most states for nearly two years.

But, the Journal added, “The new report highlights how different parts of the intelligence community have arrived at disparate judgments about the pandemic’s origin. The Energy Department now joins the Federal Bureau of Investigation in saying the virus likely spread via a mishap at a Chinese laboratory.”
On the other hand, “Four other agencies, along with a national intelligence panel, still judge that it was likely the result of a natural transmission, and two are undecided,” the Journal noted.
The CIA is among the undecided camp.
One of those, who discard the lab leak scenario, is the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
On Monday, Republican Presidential Candidate Steve Laffey asks, “Where’s the money?”
“Where’s the money? Americans are missing the whole point on the Chinese Virus,” Laffey said.
“After the U.S Department of Energy joins with the FBI to say the Chinese Virus came out of a lab in Wuhan, China…Why is it not treated like the Tobacco Master Agreement of 1998,” said Laffey.

“The point is twofold. First, science is almost never “settled” but people who asserted from the beginning that the Chinese Virus actually came out of a lab in Wuhan (as I did in 2020), seem likely to be right. So why were they banned from Twitter, and scoffed at, and publicly attacked for years? It did not seem to be a liberal/conservative issue. And why do you think so many people now distrust the conversation on “Climate Change” (also known as Global Warming at one time)?” Laffey said.
“Second, if it is true, as I think it is, that the virus came out of a lab in China, where are the lawsuits from America against China, claiming trillions of dollars in damages? Why don’t we go to court, and get the money for the millions and millions of victims? They did it in 1998 with a lesser case!It is only because China controls the world’s rare earth mineral production? (We have them in North America but won’t dig them up!) Or is it because they control our supply of prescription drugs? (We were promised their return to our shores in 2020—but the politicians just talked and did not deliver). When will China pay for its atrocities? Not until we directly confront our problems with Communist China,” Laffey concluded.
CDC Director Rochelle Wolensky said in 2021 that a lab leak was “one possibility,” but added that viruses like COVID typically come from animals.
Additionally, Dr. Anthony Fauci, longtime COVID-19 point man for both the Trump and Biden administrations, said last November that he was “open” to the lab-leak hypothesis.

But that came after years of his dismissing that theory and coming back to the animal transmission story. This month, the World Socialist Web Site reported after House Republicans wanted Fauci to testify about the “discredited” lab leak assertions, that the longtime infectious disease expert “assembled an international team of evolutionary virologists to collaborate on the ‘origin’ question.”
The outcome was a finding that COVID was “not a purposefully manipulated virus.”
The Journal added, “U.S. officials declined to give details on the fresh intelligence and analysis that led the Energy Department to change its position. They added that while the Energy Department and the FBI each say an unintended lab leak is most likely, they arrived at those conclusions for different reasons.”
