A Republican city councilwoman from New Jersey was murdered in front of her home on Wednesday, although police so far have not identified politics as a reason for her death.

Eunice Dwumfour, a 30-year-old who was recently elected councilwoman in Sayerville, was shot multiple times as she was driving near her home, according to the New York Post. She died at the scene.

Local media described the shooting as ”targeted.”

She leaves behind a 12-year-old daughter and a husband whom she recently married.

Dwumfour defeated an incumbent Democrat in 2021.

Surprisingly, Dwumfour’s murder has drawn the attention of the left-wing media and Democratic politicians, including New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker and Gov. Phil Murphy.

The New York Times, as well as ABC, NBC, CBS, and CNN, were among the outlets that reported Dwumfour’s demise. Both Booker and Murphy released statements lamenting Dwumfour’s slaying.

Dwumfour was remembered as a devout Christian who was committed to making her community better.

In a statement, Bob Hugin, chairman of the Republican Party in New Jersey, said, “We will remember Eunice for her steadfast dedication to the community, as well as her deep and abiding Christian faith. We have the utmost confidence that law enforcement will bring the perpetrators of this heartbreaking tragedy to justice.”

Sayreville Mayor Victoria Kilpatrick said in a statement, “The community is shocked and saddened at the loss of Eunice Dwumfour, who was a dedicated member of our Borough Council who was truly committed to serve all of our residents. The fact that she was taken from us by a despicable criminal act makes this incident all the more horrifying.”
