U.S. Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL) and Rep. Lauren Bobert (R-CO) joined House GOP colleagues and Trump Administration Immigration officials at a press conference on Tuesday, led by GOP Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) of Arizona, accusing Mayorkas of not taking the migrant crisis seriously at the U.S.-Mexico border.
“Secretary Mayorkas has released more than 1 million illegal aliens into the country,” said Biggs. “Most of these released illegal aliens will never be heard from again.”
The press conference dubbed “Impeach Mayorkas” was held in support of impeaching U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas in the 118th Congress.
“Ninety-Eight. Ninety-eight is the number of the known terrorists that have been let into our country,” said Steube.
“I had the opportunity to serve our country in the military, and I served as the chief of detainee operations for the multinational division north. So, I know a little something about terrorism. I know a little something about fighting terrorism,” Steube said.
“In the judiciary committee, when we asked secretary Mayorkas, did you release these known terrorists into our country? Not only did he say no, he refused to answer the question, which tells you everything that you need to know. The 98 known terrorists on the terrorist, watch list are now released into our country. I can’t think of a higher crime than releasing known terrorists into our country,” Stuebe said.

Steube went on to say that the current administration has been “intentionally and deliberately violating federal law” at the border every single day.
“And now, with a republican majority, we’re going to hold them accountable and impeach Secretary Mayorkas and bring change and shut the border now,” Steube concluded.
“Now, let’s get straight to the point. Under President Trump, we had a secure border, and now we have a wide open border with millions crossing into our country. Many of them are criminals bringing in deadly drugs that are killing our children and our devastating our communities. Many of them are known, terrorists and MS-13 gang members. Under this administration’s failed leadership, customs and border patrol officers have been handcuffed by weak directives and horrific policies,” said Boebert.
“Many of these agents have been assaulted and have even lost their lives due to Secretary Mayorkas’ open border policies,” said Boebert. “America is one of the most generous nations in the world, accepting one million legal immigrants every year. Myself and my colleagues cherish those moments when we welcome those people, who did it right, into our country, and Secretary Mayorkas is slapping each and every one of them in the face with his policies,” said Boebert.
To impeach a federal official, the House must first pass a resolution presenting its case for whatever crime or misconduct was committed that requires removal from office, which can pass with a simple majority vote.

After the House vote, the Senate sits in trial, and the chief justice of the Supreme Court presides.
The Senate then votes on whether to convict or acquit the individual. Two-thirds of the Senate, 67 votes if all are present, is needed to convict.
With the Democrats holding 51 seats in the Senate next year, this will make it impossible to convict Mayorkas or anyone else without help from 18 Democrats.
