Unverified reports on social media claim drones have been spotted flying over the U.S. Capitol, sparking a wave of speculation about their origin and purpose.
However, no official confirmation has emerged to substantiate these claims.
The reports come amid heightened public awareness of unexplained drone activity, particularly in New Jersey, where large drones—sometimes appearing in groups of over 50—have been seen since mid-November.
On Saturday, Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said on X, “The government is in control of the drones and refuses to tell the American people what is going on. It really is that bad.”

These drones, which reportedly lack visible heat signatures, have prompted investigations by federal and local authorities but have yet to be definitively identified.
Social media users have floated theories ranging from routine government surveillance to more conspiratorial ideas. The purported sightings near the Capitol have added urgency to ongoing questions about mysterious drone activity in other parts of the country.
The U.S. Capitol Police and other federal agencies have not yet commented on the reports, and it remains unclear if the alleged drones pose any potential threat to security or public safety.
Similar unexplained drone sightings in New Jersey have captured public attention over the past month. Witnesses have reported seeing large, silent drones flying in coordinated formations, often at night. One notable account described a group of 50 drones appearing to fly inland from the ocean near Island Beach State Park, heading toward Barnegat Light and Seaside Heights.
Despite extensive investigations by agencies such as the FBI and Homeland Security, officials have so far concluded that the drones do not pose a security threat. Earlier assessments even suggested the sightings could involve manned aircraft, though these explanations have not satisfied local officials or concerned residents.
The mystery surrounding these drone sightings has led to growing calls for transparency. Lawmakers, including Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ), have pushed for federal agencies to provide clearer answers. Smith recently announced plans to draft legislation empowering state and local authorities to take more decisive action in managing unidentified aerial activity, including potentially intercepting drones deemed a threat.

Sheriff Michael Mastronardi of Ocean County, New Jersey, noted that local law enforcement has deployed specialized drones and radar technology to monitor the sightings. However, many questions remain unanswered, including who is operating the drones and their purpose.
