Report: Pentagon Will Start Tracking Its Own Troops For ‘Extremism’

The Biden administration’s efforts to crack down on free speech, divide Americans along racial lines and propel the U.S. to banana republic status continue apace.

Consistent with its asinine theory that “white supremacy” is somehow the biggest threat to the country, The Intercept reports that the Pentagon will begin monitoring social media traffic of its own troops to sniff out “extremism.”

The Pentagon will create a committee headed by one of Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s most senior advisers to “continuously” monitor troops for “concerning behaviors” online, The Intercept reports. The plan entails implementing a way to “use keywords to identify potential extremists.”

“Although in the past the military has balked at surveilling service members for extremist political views due to First Amendment protections, the pilot program will rely on a private surveillance firm in order to circumvent First Amendment restrictions on government monitoring,” the left-leaning website notes.

Babel Street, a company that sells surveillance social media monitoring software, appears to be the front-runner to land the assuredly lucrative government contract to spy on our own troops, The Intercept added.

Democrats appear willing to go along.

The Intercept received a statement from the Democrat-led House Armed Services Committee about the project. It said, in part, “We anticipate that any social media screening would be intended only as an additional means of vetting cleared individuals or those seeking to obtain a security clearance, not as a tool for ongoing surveillance of all men and women in uniform.”

“That said,” the statement continued, “Secretary Austin has been clear about his intentions to understand to what extent extremism exists in the force and its effect on good order and discipline. We look forward to hearing the results of the stand down and the Department’s plan to move forward.”

The Intercept also noted that in April the Biden White House rejected a Trump-era plan to monitor social media traffic of immigrants applying to come into the country. And a former FBI agent, Mike German, who had investigated neo-Nazi groups, told the website that this approach was “an unnecessary privacy invasion,” “a flawed strategy” and would “undoubtedly produce a flood of false positives that will waste security resources and undermine morale, without identifying the real problem.”

The Pentagon has already demonstrated that it will shun and punish conservatives who speak out on issues of importance to liberals.

Within the past week, The Free Press has reported on sanctions imposed by commanders on troops like Maj. Andrew Calvert, an Army chaplain who criticized President Joe Biden’s policy to allow transgender troops to serve, and Air Force Lt. Col. Matthew Lohmeier, who has written a book critical of Critical Race Theory.

  1. And the first amendment? I guess they want a totalitarian state . . and this is coming from within the Pentagon. I think we need to get rid of the majority of the government.
