As Republicans in Congress continue to reveal the incompetence and political bias of liberals on Washington’s payroll, President Joe Biden seeks to make it easier to fire conservatives among the federal workforce.
In The Washington Times on Monday, conservative activist Adrian Norman noted that Biden’s Office of Personnel Management has proposed a hiring regulation that, if adopted, “will effectively authorize the government to purge individuals based on their political or religious beliefs.”
Norman wrote that the proposal would broaden the standards for “suitability and fitness” to include “that an individual does or does not have the required level of character and conduct necessary to perform work for a Federal agency.” That would be based on the view of the individual agency.

While that may sound innocuous, and perhaps beneficial, Norman said the rule would apply apart and “distinct from the assessment of an individual’s job qualifications.”
Under current federal law, people are barred from working for the federal government if they demonstrated “knowing and willful engagement in acts or activities designed to overthrow the U.S. Government by force.”
But the Biden administration would expand that to include “overthrowing” state, local, or tribal governments.
According to Norman, the change would also force out employees who use “force, violence, intimidation or coercion” to deny others the “free exercise of their rights under the U.S. Constitution or any state constitution,” as well as “attempting to indoctrinate others or to incite them to action in furtherance of illegal acts,” and “active membership or leadership in a group with knowledge of its unlawful aims, or participation in such a group with specific intent to further its unlawful aims.”
Those last three points, Norman said, are “written vaguely enough to justify denying employment to anyone based solely on their political views.”

As examples, Norman pointed out that under the rules, if implemented, nothing could stop a “left-leaning government manager” from firing or refusing to hire someone who refuses to use preferred pronouns, protested outside an abortion clinic, opposed Critical Race Theory, or even questioned the “lab leak” theory of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Codifying these types of dangerous policies could pave the way for the government to enact the type of ideological conformity that fueled the rise of authoritarian and communist regimes that are responsible for the deaths of more than 90 million people and counting worldwide,” Norman argued.
“Compelled speech is an affront to American ideals and antithetical to the values embedded in our nation at its founding. OPM’s rule change should be rejected wholesale.”
