One day after Special Counsel John Durham revealed how the Justice Department, under President Barack Obama, helped undermine election integrity in 2016, a Biden-appointed U.S. attorney announced her resignation following accusations she leaked department secrets to influence an election.

Massachusetts U.S. attorney Rachael Rollins, a Democrat, said she was stepping down after allegations surfaced that she inappropriately released “sensitive DOJ [Department of Justice]” information to the media to help a fellow Democrat, the Blaze reported.

President Joe Biden nominated Rollins in July 2021. The Senate confirmed her in December.

In two separate investigative reports released on Wednesday — one by the DOJ’s inspector general and one by the U.S. Office of Special Counsel — alleged that Rollins violated the Hatch Act, a federal law that bans U.S. officials from participating in many political activities.

The agencies said Rollins sought to aid Ricardo Arroyo in the Democratic primary campaign for Suffolk County district attorney.

She reportedly told the Boston Globe that Arroyo’s opponent, Kevin Hayden, was the target of a DOJ probe into political corruption.

When that didn’t work, Rollins reportedly shared “non-public, sensitive” DOJ information in an effort to smear Hayden. When her buddy Arroyo lost, Rollins kept shoveling supposed secrets to the media to undermine Hayden in the general election.

The inspector general reported that Rollins lied under oath when questioned about her actions in the election.

Meanwhile, the Office of Special Counsel declared that her maneuvers were “among the most egregious transgressions of the [Hatch] Act that OSC has ever investigated.”

Rollins’ effort turned out to be “an extraordinary abuse of her authority and threatens to erode public confidence,” the OSC report stated.
