On each of the two days following horrific attacks and a wide-ranging campaign of terror and brutality against America’s staunchest ally in the Middle East, the U.S. president called it a day before noon.
According to the website Trending Politics on Monday, President Joe Biden, who turns 81 next month, called a “lid” just before noon, which meant there would be no other public appearances or statements from him for the rest of the day.
“This comes on the heels of a tragic incident where at least nine Americans were killed in Israel over the weekend, with several others now held captive by the terrorist group Hamas,” the website noted.

Forbes reported Monday evening that at least 11 Americans have been killed. The overall death toll from Saturday’s surprise attack on the Israelis by Hamas was approaching 1,000 by Monday night.
“Just an hour after Biden called a lid for the day,” Trending Politics continued, “a Hamas spokesperson announced that the terror group would be executing hostages in response to each new Israeli airstrike.”
It’s unclear how many Americans are among the Jewish captives held by the Palestinian terrorists.
Conservatives denounced Biden for an act that first became a common occurrence when he ran for president in 2020.
On X (formerly Twitter), Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said, “We have Americans held hostage by Hamas and Joe Biden is taking the day off. President Trump would never do this. He would not stop working until he got our people back. None of this would have ever happened in the first place if he were in the White House.”
Florida GOP Rep. Byron Donalds on Naples added on X, “Americans are being killed/held hostage by radical Islamic terrorists in Gaza & where’s Biden?”

“This is the ‘Basement Presidency’ in action,” Donalds added.
“You’ve got to be s—— me?!?” Donald Trump Jr. said on X. “It’s Monday at noon. Our greatest ally in the Middle East is at war, women and children are being slaughtered and raped in the streets, and our imbecile president is checking out before lunch?”
It’s unclear why Biden packed it in so early on Monday,
But he also stopped working before noon on Sunday. He did so in order to host a barbecue with a live band for some White House staff.
“While Hamas holds Americans hostage, Joe Biden is enjoying a picnic with a live band,” GOP Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri posted on X on Sunday.
The White House defended Biden’s light work schedule on Sunday and Monday.
The cookout, officials said, was a long-planned event to recognize the blue-collar staff who maintain the White House and care for the first family.
On both Sunday and Monday, officials added, Biden had calls with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the attacks and Israel’s response. On Monday afternoon, he was supposed to speak with European allies, though it was unclear which ones.
“A lid does *not* mean the President has stopped working,” White House spokesman Andrew Bates replied Monday on X to Biden’s critics. “On the contrary, he’s working to support Israel all day.”
Biden is expected to speak to the on Tuesday.
