A new study revealed that there are ten times as many Democrats working in the nation’s newsrooms as Republicans, according to the website JustTheNews.com.
JTN reported on Friday that a survey by Syracuse University found 36% percent of journalists in the U.S. claim to be Democrats.
In contrast, only about 3.4% of journalists say they are Republicans.
The study included 1,600 respondents.

While the political makeup in the news industry may not be all that surprising, given conservatives’ longtime complaints about the “liberal media,” the study showed that the ideological slant is getting worse for conservatives.
The Syracuse study has been taken about every 10 years since 1971, and the recently reported results were actually captured in 2022.
The 3.4% of Republicans reported in the most recent iteration was the lowest amount recorded in the history of the study.
In the 1971 report, Republicans made up 25.7% of the pool of journalists. The ratio has declined steadily ever since, holding somewhat steady between 16% and 19% between 1982 and 2002. By 2013, the GOP acclaimed only 7/1% of the newsroom workforce.

Meanwhile, the 36.4% who self-reported as Democrats in this edition was up eight percentage points from the 2013 study, and was the third-highest total in the history of the report.
Neither the study nor JTN or others that reported on the study, including Fox News and Mediaite, did not discuss the political leanings of the 51.7% who claimed to be political independents.
