Repeat Felon To Be Sentenced Friday For Deadly 92 Mph Crash On Plant City Neighborhood Street

TAMPA, FL. – Convicted of third-degree murder and four other crimes, Terrell Rollins will learn his sentence Friday for speeding away from a police traffic stop and crashing into the side of Amanda Renee Holmes-Williams’ car, killing her instantly—then leaving the scene on foot.

On April 23, 2020, Plant City Police attempted to pull over a silver Hyundai driven by Rollins for illegal window tint. Instead of stopping, Rollins accelerated.

Trying to escape from police, he sped through several neighborhood streets, running stop signs and driving recklessly. Police ended their pursuit, but Rollins continued to flee.

Over the course of five blocks, Rollins reached the speed of 92.5 miles per hour. At that point, as he traveled south on Maryland Avenue, he ran a stop sign at Warren Street.

He collided with the passenger side of a vehicle being driven by 53-year-old Amanda Renee Holmes-Williams. She was killed instantly. Rollins then fled the crash scene on foot without attempting to help Holmes-Williams or give any of his identifying information to witnesses. He was later found hiding in a yard several blocks away by Plant City Police.

Prosecutors with the Hillsborough State Attorney’s Office secured a guilty verdict against 27-year-old Rollins at trial in January.

The jury convicted Rollins of third-degree murder; fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer; vehicular homicide; leaving the scene of a crash with death, and driving with license canceled, suspended, or revoked. Rollins has previously served two stints in prison, most recently from March 2015 through August 2018.

Rollins is scheduled to be sentenced in person Friday, February 18 at 10:00 a.m. in Courtroom 33 of the Hillsborough County Courthouse before Judge Lyann Goudie. Members of the victim’s family are expected to speak during the hearing.
