U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) today announced that he secured a guarantee from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy to readmit disenrolled cadets due to vaccination status.

Many U.S. Coast Guard cadets remained unvaccinated throughout the military’s wrongful COVID-19 vaccine mandate, which Congress has since repealed.

The vaccine mandate contributed to reducing military readiness across all branches of service, and especially in the Coast Guard.

“The COVID-19 vaccine mandate should never have been placed on our troops, cadets, or midshipmen. Now that Congress rightly repealed it, I’m glad the Coast Guard has guaranteed they will readmit any cadet who was wrongfully disenrolled due to vaccination status,” said Rep. Greg Steube. “Cadets simply want to serve our country. They represent the best and brightest of America. Serving in the Coast Guard as commissioned officers was a major component of their individual American Dreams. Biden’s unnecessary vaccine mandate has already disrupted cadets’ military careers, but it is my hope that reinstatement into the Academy places these cadets back on track to faithfully serve our country.”

The Air Force Academy, the Naval Academy, the Merchant Marine Academy and West Point allowed cadets or midshipmen to continue their studies at their academies during the Fall of 2022, and continue to do so, despite those cadets being unvaccinated due to religious objections.

There appears to be no reason the Coast Coast Academy cadets should have been treated differently.

In a letter to Rep. Steube, U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral Eric Jones wrote: “Seven cadets were disenrolled from the CGA for failure to follow a lawful order to take the COVID-19 vaccine and four left voluntarily because of the order to be vaccinated. As a result of the vaccine mandate rescission, the Coast Guard is offering a path to readmittance for the former cadets. The Coast Guard Academy has attempted to contact all eleven cadets to advise them of their eligibility for readmittance.”
