Rep. Matt Gaetz Of Florida Grills Space Force’s Top Brass On Red-State Policy, Politics

Three months ago, one of the U.S. Space Force’s top woke generals openly acknowledged that she heavily weighs a state’s policies on supporting the LGBTQ agenda before determining where subordinate commanders are stationed.

As the Tampa Free Press reported at the time, Lt. Gen. DeAnna Burt, while in uniform and speaking at a Pride event at the Pentagon, said she decides where troops go depending on whether they will be “safe being themselves” or denied healthcare “due to the laws” in a state, as based on some 400 alleged anti-LGBTQ laws those states have passed or considered.

Burt admitted that she would direct a “less qualified” candidate to a higher post if she felt LGBTQ troops or family were not a good match in red states.

On Wednesday, during a hearing of the House Armed Services Committee, which was looking into the role of “meritocracy” in the military’s promotion system, Rep. Matt Gaetz played Burt’s comments, and then grilled top Pentagon officials about her standard for deciding promotions and assignments.

As it turned out, the Fort Walton Beach Republican got some of the Biden administration’s top brass to say Burt was wrong or being misleading about the military’s policies.

Air Force Lt. Gen. Caroline Miller, deputy chief of staff for Manpower, Personnel, & Services, replied “absolutely not” when Gaetz asked if a state’s policies on issues like gender or abortion should influence who gets which military jobs.

“It’s [based on] the needs of the Air Force,” MIller added.

Asked the same question by Gaetz, Katharine Kelley, deputy chief of Space Operations for Human Capital for the Space Force, said the agency does not take such policies into account in determining job selection.

“It certainly doesn’t reflect what our processes are,” said Kelley when Gaetz pressed her about why Burt made such remarks.

“This is a bit of a moment,” Gaetz noted.

When he asked Burt to provide a list of those laws, he said, one of her underlings reported that the Air Force does not maintain a list of state laws that “impact military readiness.”

Kelley admitted that the Space Force does not keep such a list either.

When pushed further by Gaetz, Kelley also admitted that Space Force troops who objected to a state’s policies on issues such as Critical Race Theory or abortion would have to prove such laws create a “hardship” for them before the department would decide to not send them there.

“What you’re providing us are conflicting and irreconcilable representations” of policy,” said Gaetz.

Gaetz also said further investigation is warranted, including bringing in Burt to answer for her remarks.

“If Gen. Burt has gone rogue … to create a secret list of 400 policies that she deems discriminatory, I’d sure like the committee to see them,” said Gaetz.
