For the second time in two months, Rep. Matt Gaetz has spotlighted the reckless driving of an illegal immigrant who injured other motorists.
The Fort Walton Beach Republican on Friday called attention to the DUI arrest of Walter Gomaz, a 20-year-old man who caused a five-car crash that seriously injured two people.
One of the victims almost had to have a leg amputated, according to a local news report.

WEAR in Pensacola reported that Gomez was driving at a “high rate of speed” through a neighborhood near Navarre last Sunday when he ran a stop sign and rear-ended a van.
Gomez’s car bounced off the van and collided with an SUV. The van, meanwhile, careened into the yard of a nearby single-family home and hit two parked cars.
Gomez ran from the scene but was soon captured by Santa Rosa County deputies.
WEAR noted that one passenger in the van nearly lost a leg to amputation from injuries sustained in the crash. Another passenger was hospitalized in critical condition with glass lodged in his neck.
Deputies booked Gomez on allegations of DUI, driving without a license, leaving the scene of a crash, careless driving and failing to obey a stop sign. He was being held on $150,000 bail.

The Sheriff’s Office also said it had a detainer order from Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Upon Gomez’s arrest, Gaetz said in a statement, “The Biden administration’s open border policies are putting Northwest Floridians at risk. This is why I voted to impeach [Department of Homeland Security] Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Our nation won’t be safe until we put President [Donald] Trump back in the White House.”
Highlighting the case on X on Friday, Gaetz posted Gomez’s mugshot and noted, “Biden’s open border continues to endanger Northwest Florida. This illegal immigrant was recently arrested in Navarre for a DUI crash that left two people seriously injured.”
As the Tampa Free Press reported in March, Gaetz was fuming after the DHS refused to release details about how Byron Pineda, an illegal immigrant, entered the country and why he was wanted by ICE.
