Rep. Gus Bilirakis (FL-12) spoke on the House Floor Wednesday to condemn the Biden Administration’s latest attack on American energy production by pausing all new and ongoing natural gas permits.

The President also recently announced that his Administration would no longer hold court-ordered offshore oil and gas lease sales.

Bilirakis lamented that these decisions would hurt the already suffering Floridians and jeopardize national security.

“While the Biden Administration continually tries to deflect blame for rising energy costs, the truth is quite clear: President Biden has honored his campaign promise to far-left climate activists to wage war on American energy production,” said Bilirakis.

“On day one of Biden’s presidency, he launched his war on American energy when he killed the Keystone XL pipeline, which could be supplying 830,000 thousand barrels of oil from Canada to U.S. refineries.  Instead, China has taken advantage of Biden’s America last policies and increased oil imports from Canada in recent years,” added Bilirakis.

“The Biden Administration’s shortsighted decisions related to energy policy strengthens adversarial countries in their aggression toward America and her allies. Bilirakis noted that Biden’s latest regulatory assaults, coupled with seemingly endless bureaucratic barriers to thwart energy production have destroyed any incentive for domestic energy producers to invest and worsened energy market volatility. The result has been skyrocketing energy costs to consumers, which they cannot afford,” concluded Bilirakis.

In his remarks on the House floor, Bilirakis urged the President to stop holding American consumers hostage in an attempt to appease his liberal base.

He encouraged the President to get behind common sense measures that restore American energy dominance and protect our national security.

Bilirakis pointed to a bill he has co-sponsored, the Lower Energy Costs Act, as the best path forward.  This bill passed the House last year.

It would require the Biden Administration to:

  • Increase domestic energy production,
  • Reform the permitting process for all industries,
  • Reverse anti-energy policies advanced by the Biden Administration,
  • Streamline energy infrastructure and exports, and
  • Boost the production and processing of hard rock minerals, including critical minerals.
