On Friday, the head of the union for U.S. Border Patrol agents noted that morale among those who protect our southern border – and America’s sovereignty – has reached rock bottom.
In an interview with Fox News, Brandon Judd, president of the National Border Patrol Council, said agents are frustrated and exhausted by President Joe Biden’s insistence on not enforcing existing laws while also creating policies that draw more illegal immigrants. The next will be ending the policy known as Title 42, which during the pandemic was invoked to expel illegals without any type of hearing.
“The agents are upset. I’ve never seen agents so upset as I have under what is currently going on,” Judd told Fox News.
“When you look at, first, how many agents are being pulled out of the field to do administrative duties, that’s one thing that’s really upsetting the agents, and then on top of that knowing that we’re going to have to face the health risk that we’ll be put under, having to hold people for a much longer period of time than we have in the past — yeah that’s putting an immense amount of stress and pressure on the agents and morale continues to go down.”
“When you know that you’re just not doing a very good job because you’re not being given the resources or ability to do what you know will protect the American public, the morale just tanks. It tanks;” he added.
Last week, U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz demanded that Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas explain how and why the Biden administration put border authorities and the American people in this situation.
In a letter to Mayorkas, the Fort Walton Beach Republican asked Mayorkas what his agency, which includes the Border Patrol, is doing with the people it does capture and what it intends to do about the anticipated rush of illegals across the border.
Gaetz noted that there is an “increasing need” to simply enforce existing immigration laws because the administration has made a “conscious decision to open the floodgates of mass migration.”
He pointed out that since Biden took office, more than 544,000 illegal immigrants held by U.S. Customs and Border Protection have been shuttled into the interior of the country.
“These aliens are being bussed and flown all over the country,” Gaetz wrote to Mayorkas, adding that meanwhile, “Under your leadership deportations have come to a halt.”
“It is well documented that illegal immigrants are showing up at our southern border and fraudulently claiming asylum to be granted entry,” Gaetz continued.
The congressman also pointed out that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is removing 4,300 illegals a month.
At that rate, he added, “It would take 14.5 years to deport just the aliens DHS has released under the Biden Administration, when we have nearly 1.9 million aliens eligible for deportation currently.”
Accordingly, he asked Mayorkas to explain what he is doing to increase the rate of deportations, what, if any, plan the administration has to remove illegals from the nation’s interior, where the government is sending them and who decides that, and how the administration tracks those moved to the middle of America.
“The situation at our southern border is untenable. Securing borders and deciding who may be permitted lawful entry is the prime directive of any sovereign nation. Watching hordes of illegal migrants from all over the world flood into our country, without any vetting whatsoever, shocks the conscience of the American people,” Gaetz told Mayorkas.
“It is an attack on our sovereignty, and nothing less than a conscious decision to rewrite the rules of civilization, dissolve our borders, undermine our nation-state, and displace our people.”
