Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz said the media ran with fake stories about him being an alleged child sex trafficker because he’s “effective” at thwarting the liberal agenda.
Speaking to Laura Ingraham of Fox News on Wednesday, just after the Justice Department announced it would not pursue charges against Gaetz following a 23-month investigation, the Fort Walton Beach Republican suggested the left-wing media has been psychologically projecting its own flaws and foibles onto him.
He noted CNN as an example, which has had several key figures leave because of sex scandals.

“I don’t really take my P’s and Q’s from the mainstream media,” Gaetz told Ingraham.
“For the last two years, I’ve been fighting for my constituents, and the mainstream media has been largely like a refuge for scoundrels and weirdos.”
When Ingraham asked about the media “picking you off” because of his political position, Gaetz replied that he took inspiration from former President Doand Trump and ep. Jim Jordan, who forged ahead with their ideas despite the adverse media attention, which proved to be false.
“I know folks don’t always agree with my perspective on everything, but I have been working to impact the Congress in a positive way, get us out of a foreign war, focus on the border,” and now serving on the committee investigating the “weaponization” of the government against conservative citizens.

On Twitter on Wednesday night following the interview, Gaetz added, “The Fake News media endlessly propagandized my life and told lies about me because I’m effective at impacting legislation.”
“They always come for the fighters,” he added. “We all have to watch our back because that’s where the target is.”
