U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz is pushing back on President Joe Biden’s divisive demeaning of conservative Americans, including himself and others who questioned dubious voting practices in states that backed the Democrat in 2020.
On Thursday night, as Biden was delivering his angry speech demonizing former President Donald Trump and “MAGA Republicans” as “a threat to the very soul of this country,” the White House used its official Twitter account to also attack them and Gaetz specifically.
“MAGA Republicans in Congress view the mob that stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6 as patriots,” the White House tweeted. “On the anniversary of the violent insurrection, Congressman Matt Gaetz said ‘We’re proud of the work that we did on January 6 to make legitimate arguments about election integrity.’”
Some of us are old enough to remember a distant time – say, back in 2020 – when liberals and the media objected to “mean tweets” coming from the White House and its occupant.

Nonetheless, Gaetz, a Fort Walton Beach Republican, rejected the White House argument.
On Friday, he tweeted in response, “The ‘work we did’ involved preparing an argument on the House floor. Then and now I expressly denounce political violence. No Republican President has been inaugurated absent some such Democrat objection since George HW Bush. Now about that failed economy and border crisis!”
Gaetz got support from his colleague GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who tweeted, “Yes we are proud of the work we did preparing and objecting to Biden’s electoral college votes. Matt and I were assigned the great state of Michigan and were upset over the riot. It should not have happened and took our ability to debate on behalf of voters in Michigan.”
Of course, what the national liberal media won’t tell the public is that Democrats did their own work to undermine elections and democracy under Trump.
For example, the special House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol includes Democratic Reps. Jamie Raskin, who on Jan. 6, 2017, was one of several Democrats to voice an objection to Electoral College votes for Trump as his election was being certified, and Adam Schiff, who spent three years spreading and fueling Hillary Clinton’s Russia-collusion hoax that undermined Trump’s presidency.
On Friday, Gaetz again criticized Biden for denouncing and inciting anger, and possibly violence, toward the conservative half of the country.
“Yesterday, Joe Biden spoke to the nation from Independence Hall in Philadelphia, PA, under the false pretense of ‘uniting the country,’” Gaetz said in an email to constituents.

“Instead, Biden did the exact opposite in his political theater of divisive fearmongering aimed at freedom-oriented Republicans like me. Biden falsely claimed that ‘MAGA forces are determined to take this country backwards.’ These false assertions come from a sitting president whose contributions to society include inflation, recession, and corruption.”
“History teaches us it’s the failing dictators in demise who raid the homes of their political opponents and explicitly divide the citizenry based on race,” Gaetz added. “I continue to push back against this madness and look towards 2023 with optimism for an effective House of Representatives.”
