TAMPA, Fla. – With Leonard Fournette gone, the Bucs 2nd year running back Rachaad White is ready to be the Bucs bell cow at running back.

“I feel great,” White told me after taking a round of batting practice before the Rays Blue Jays Spring Training game at Tropicana Field.

“I’m blessed. I’m grateful the guys, people, the Bucs look at me as the number one. Obviously, my teammates look at me in that way and I’m grateful for that. I’m just kinda ready to get to work.”

The 2022 third-round pick had a good rookie season. White rushed for 481 yards and one touchdown in 17 games on 129 carries. The 24-year-old took some time to rest and has now been working out again and soon will be ramping up his training.

“I took a month off though, because I’m just mentally and things like that to kind of get away from football” White said. “I got back rolling, and once I got back rolling I feel great.”I love to do what lI do so i just have fun with it.”

But not before a cruise that he’s going on. oh, and he took batting practice with a Rays’ sweatshirt on and thought he did ok after not having picked up a bat in a long time.

“It was cool but at first I started on a tee. That’s how long it’s been,” White said.”I worked my way up, started on some pitches. I told them to get the thing ( pitching machine) rolling and they was like, “you’re not ready for that.”

White hadn’t picked up a baseball bat in 14 years and thought it would be fun to take some swings. What he’s really excited about is the upcoming NFL season. White says he and some of the younger players on the Bucs roster are excited to get back to work at One Buc as a team and White feels Kyle Trask is ready now to compete for the starting role at QB.

“I’m very comfortable with Kyle,” White said. “I’ve seen a lot of things with Kyle. First they had him practice and he was able to show them what he had. He did a lot of great things given our defensive looks. Just who he is. He’s got a lot of poise. He’s calm.

White says he and Trask have been working together this offseason.

“I’ve been running routes, and he’s been slingin that thing. Kyle’s got a lot of potential and like I said it’s a great opportunity.”

White says he’s had a couple of conversations with new offensive coordinator Dave Canales. White likes the energy Canales is bringing and is looking forward to having a new mind running the offense.
