BRADENTON, Fla. – Prompt response by the City of Bradenton Fire Department (BFD) this afternoon prevented significant damage to a vacant residence undergoing renovation in the Braden Castle neighborhood.

At approximately 1:15 p.m., BFD personnel were dispatched to a reported structure fire on Seminole Drive East. First responding units arrived on the scene at 1:21 p.m. and observed moderate smoke emanating from the eaves and attic vents of the home.

The first arriving unit immediately initiated a fire attack. Following a 360-degree assessment of the property, firefighters determined that the fire was contained to a utility room at the rear of the dwelling.

Firefighters swiftly brought the situation under control by 1:30 p.m. No injuries were reported as the structure was unoccupied at the time of the incident.

The residence, which was undergoing renovations due to recent hurricane damage, sustained damage primarily to the utility room where the fire originated, as well as heavy smoke damage throughout the building.

An investigation into the cause of the fire was conducted by BFD fire investigators. Their findings indicated that the blaze was accidentally started due to a faulty or compromised electrical system connected to the water heater.
