PLANT CITY FL: A protest is being organized in the Plant City area tonight, without input or coordination from city officials.
Like many of the peaceful protests that have taken place around the country, event organizers have worked with local law enforcement and Mayor’s offices to coordinate the protests.
An outside group has planned the protest in Plant City, without coordinating with the city leadership or law enforcement.
Plant City community leaders, got together to produce a video message to city, and to open dialogue with area residents.
In the video message to the community yesterday, Mayor Rick Lott said, “We have all been gripped by anger and frustration. The pain and injustice of the tragic death of Mr. Floyd is very real to each and every one of us.”
William Thomas Sr., past president and current board of director for the Improvement League of Plant City said, “Like many of you, I’ve experienced a lot of injustice throughout my life. And I’m weary. I have helped to organize, and I participated in protests when dialogue had failed to garner results. I believe it serves a purpose when done peacefully but I’m convinced our current dialogue with our city leaders, and residents still allow us to continue to work together to make a better community.”
