Former President Donald J. Trump announced the nomination of Herschel Walker as the United States Ambassador to the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, praising his decades-long dedication to public service, athletic excellence, and advocacy.
In a statement, Trump highlighted Walker’s diverse accomplishments, from his sports career to his contributions as a philanthropist and advocate for mental health.
“Herschel has spent decades serving as an Ambassador to our Nation’s youth, our men and women in the Military, and athletes at home and abroad,” Trump said. “Congratulations, Herschel! You will make Georgia, and our entire Nation, proud, because we know you will always put AMERICA FIRST!”

Walker, a former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL legend, has excelled in business, sports, and public service. During Trump’s first term, Walker served as Co-Chair of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition, promoting youth sports and physical fitness. He has also traveled to over 400 military installations worldwide, advocating for mental health and reducing stigma among service members.
In addition to his public service, Walker represented the United States as part of the 1992 Winter Olympics bobsled team, further solidifying his legacy as a global sports ambassador.
Trump described Walker as a tireless advocate for youth and a strong representative of American values on the international stage.

Walker’s nomination will require Senate confirmation before he can assume his new role as ambassador to the Bahamas.
