President-elect Donald Trump announced Saturday his intention to appoint Kash Patel, a former chief of staff to the acting secretary of defense during Trump’s first term, as the next director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
“I am proud to announce that Kashyap “Kash” Patel will serve as the next Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Kash is a brilliant lawyer, investigator, and “America First” fighter who has spent his career exposing corruption, defending Justice, and protecting the American People,” Trump said on Truth Social. “He played a pivotal role in uncovering the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, standing as an advocate for truth, accountability, and the Constitution. Kash did an incredible job during my First Term, where he served as Chief of Staff at the Department of Defense, Deputy Director of National Intelligence, and Senior Director for Counterterrorism at the National Security Council.”

“Kash has also tried over 60 jury trials. This FBI will end the growing crime epidemic in America, dismantle the migrant criminal gangs, and stop the evil scourge of human and drug trafficking across the Border. Kash will work under our great Attorney General, Pam Bondi, to bring back Fidelity, Bravery, and Integrity to the FBI,” Trump said.
Patel has built a reputation as one of Trump’s staunchest allies, often advocating for overhauling the Justice Department and intelligence community. A former public defender who advanced to key national security roles during Trump’s presidency, Patel has publicly supported claims that the 2020 presidential election was “stolen” and has often criticized what he describes as the “deep state.”
In his memoir, Government Gangsters, Patel framed the current political landscape as a struggle between the American people and a “corrupt ruling class,” accusing unelected officials within the federal government of undermining democratic principles.
“The Deep State is an unelected cabal of tyrants who think they should determine who Americans can and cannot elect as president, who think they get to decide what the president can and cannot do, and who believe they have the right to choose what the American people can and cannot know,” Patel noted in “Government Gangsters.”

Patel has called for significant reforms within federal agencies, including replacing what he describes as “anti-democratic” civil servants in law enforcement and intelligence positions with “patriots” dedicated to serving the public interest.
This nomination signals Trump’s intent to reshape the FBI, reflecting his broader promise to reform federal institutions he has often criticized during his political career.
Patel’s nomination is expected to spark debate in Washington, with supporters praising his commitment to reform and critics raising concerns over his controversial views and staunch loyalty to Trump. As the FBI faces mounting challenges and scrutiny, Patel’s potential leadership could mark a significant shift in the agency’s direction.
