The declaration will allocate federal resources to multiple counties and authorize the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to coordinate disaster relief efforts.

Governor Ron DeSantis had already declared a state of emergency for 51 Florida counties over the weekend, ahead of the powerful storm. As of Monday morning, Milton had strengthened to a Category 4 hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico. It is expected to reach Florida late Wednesday or early Thursday, potentially bringing devastating winds, storm surge, and flooding to the region.
The federal support is aimed at bolstering the state’s preparations and ensuring a swift response once the hurricane makes landfall.
