HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Hillsborough County Water Resources has lifted the precautionary boil water notice for the majority of customers in the Windemere drinking water system in the Lutz area, effective April 2, 2025.
The notice, initially issued on March 31, 2025, was put in place due to a drop in distribution system pressure caused by an electrical issue at the water plant. Subsequent testing has confirmed that the water now meets all water quality standards.

However, residents located on Wildrose Drive remain under a precautionary boil water notice.
The Florida Department of Health recommends that all residents, including those whose notices have been lifted, flush their water lines by running water for five minutes at each tap. This includes misters, drinking fountains, and ice makers (discard the first bin of ice).
ORIGINAL REPORT: Hillsborough County Water Resources is advising customers in the Hillsborough County Water Resources Department (HCWRD) Windemere drinking water system to boil their tap water as a precautionary measure.
The precautionary boil water notice is being issued due to a drop in the County’s water distribution system pressure below the required regulatory level.
This pressure drop was caused by an electrical issue at the water plant, according to the Department of Health in Hillsborough County.

The notice advises customers to boil all tap water used for:
- Cooking
- Drinking
- Making ice
- Brushing teeth
- Washing dishes
To ensure safety, water should be brought to a full rolling boil for one minute and then cooled before use. It is also recommended to run water until it is clear before washing clothes and to discard any ice from automatic ice makers. As an alternative, bottled water can be used.
While there is currently no evidence of contamination, the boil-water notice is a precautionary measure and will remain in effect until tests confirm the water meets quality standards. Testing typically takes around 48 hours, but the duration may vary depending on the specific tests required.

The precautionary boil-water notice affects HCWRD Windemere Utility customers in the Lutz area. Approximately 1,000 residential connections are impacted. A map of the affected area is available.
Residents and businesses will be notified when the precautionary boil water notice is lifted using the same method as the initial notification.
