The price of betrayal has been delivered. Kiesha L. Brown, 32, of Hampton, learned her fate yesterday, receiving a two-year prison sentence for her involvement in a significant mail theft scheme.

Brown, who was employed by the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) as a city carrier assistant at the LC Page Post Office in Norfolk, was found guilty of pilfering mail, leaving a trail of financial damage and shattered trust in her wake.

According to court documents, the U.S. Postal Service, Office of Inspector General (OIG), began investigating complaints in June 2023 from customers of the LC Page Postal Station detailing mail theft and check fraud. The investigation quickly zeroed in on Brown’s delivery route.

One victim, whose business fell within Brown’s assigned area, reported a staggering 16 checks vanished from the mail. In one instance, a check originally written for $146.64 never reached its intended destination.

Instead, it was fraudulently altered and deposited into a bank account for a significantly larger sum of $4,890.02. Sadly, this was not an isolated incident, as numerous other customers on Brown’s route reported similar check fraud incidents stemming from mail they had entrusted to the postal system.

Surveillance revealed a disturbing picture of Brown’s activities. She was observed using drugs within her postal vehicle and engaging in the act of rummaging through and stealing mail. Further investigation uncovered that Brown was providing stolen mail to an accomplice in exchange for cash, funds she reportedly used to support her daughter and a drug addiction.

The scope of Brown’s criminal activity was extensive. Investigators identified a total of 37 individuals who fell victim to her scheme. The intended financial loss resulting from her thefts amounted to approximately $245,000, with an actual loss totaling a substantial $155,297.91.

In addition to her two-year prison sentence, Senior U.S. District Judge Raymond A. Jackson ordered Brown to pay full restitution in the amount of $155,297.91 to her victims.
