Liberals were outraged earlier this year when new Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced that he was booting left-wing California Democrat Adam Schiff off the House Intelligence Committee.

GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida joined in, filing a measure in January to ban Schiff from access to classified materials.

Gaetz noted at the time that Schiff for years promoted the Russia-collusion hoax, and thus led the effort “to weaponize lies from the Clinton campaign and a corrupt Department of Justice to smear President Trump while destroying any trust the country had left in America’s intelligence agencies.”

Now, McCarthy wants to go further: He’s hinting that Schiff should be booted from Congress.

On Monday, Special Counsel John Durham released his long-awaited report into the Justice Department’s actions regarding Trump and allegations of collaborating with Russia. The gist of Durham’s probe was that Gaetz was correct: the FBI led a campaign to discredit Trump based on phony allegations made by the Clinton campaign that were treated and promoted as gospel truth.

In response, McCarthy told reporters that Durham should testify to the House about his findings and that the Schiff show should be over.

“It really raises the question about Adam Schiff. Remember when he told the American people he had proof? Remember when he told them he didn’t know the whistleblower? And what he put Americans through? And openly lied to us?” McCarthy said.

“And now it’s proven in this as well. It raises a lot of questions about his, just his character, his standing inside of Congress,” McCarthy continued. “And whether he should even be in Congress.”

In a later interview with Fox News, the speaker added, “You had Adam Schiff, who was chairman of the Intel Committee, lying day after day to the American public that he had proof, that he needed proof.”

“Why is this individual still even in Congress and why does he think he could even run for higher office after what he did?”

Schiff is running for the U.S. Senate in California.
