Poll: Conservatives Believe People Are Too Easily Offended, While Liberals Believe The Real Problem Is Offensive People

The Pew Research Center has released a survey showing that two of every three Americans think having society infected by political snowflakes is a big problem.

Perhaps not surprisingly, an even higher percentage of Republicans agreed that we’re being bogged down by people who take offense at the slightest slight.

Pew asked two questions, how big a problem is it when people are easily offended by what others say, and similarly when people say “offensive” things.

The survey revealed that 65 percent believe it is a major problem when people are “too easily” offended, compared to just 6 percent who said it was not a problem at all.

On the other hand, 53 percent answered that it is a major problem when people make offensive remarks, relative to 9 percent who said it was not a problem.

Yet as the pollster noted, the findings indicated “substantial differences” on partisan grounds.

Half of Democrats responded that it’s a “major problem” when people get their feelings hurt too easily.

But among Republicans, that shot up to 84 percent.

As for the other question, 63 percent of Democrats felt people saying things considered offensive was a big problem.

In contrast, only 40 percent of Republicans agreed with that statement.

Offering a different take, Pew asked how many conserved that both issues were a significant problem, as well as both not being a problem at all.

Across the board, a little more than a third agreed both outcomes were an issue, while about one in five said both were not.

Demographically, the breakdown was fairly even among men and women.

Among races not so much.

As to whether people are too easily offended, 70 percent of whites and 62 percent of Hispanics agreed that was not good for the nation, compared to 53 percent of blacks and 50 percent of Asians.

And on people being offensive, 47 percent of whites said that is a major problem, while 69 percent of blacks, 62 percent of Hispanics, and 57 percent of Asians agreed with that observation.
