POLK COUNTY, Fla. – The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is holding a Firearms Safety Course and Concealed Weapons Class on Saturday, February 8th, providing residents with the opportunity to learn essential firearm safety practices and fulfill the training requirements for a Florida concealed weapons permit.
The class will be held from 8:00 AM to noon. If the morning session fills up, a second class will be offered from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The cost is $70, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Polk Sheriff’s Charities, Inc.

Course Details:
- Date: Saturday, February 8th, 2025
- Time: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM (with a possible afternoon session from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM)
- Cost: $70 (non-refundable)
- Ammunition: Participants must bring their own ammunition or purchase it for $12.50.
- Firearms: While handguns will be available for the hands-on portion, participants are encouraged to bring their own if possible.
While Florida now allows permitless carry, obtaining a concealed weapons permit still offers advantages:
- Reciprocity: Permits are recognized in other states that may not allow permitless carry.
- Firearm Purchases: Permit holders are exempt from the 3-day waiting period for firearm purchases.
