POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A fleeing suspect learned the hard way that you can’t outrun a bloodhound’s nose. Thanks to the keen senses of K-9 Cat, a Polk County Sheriff’s Office bloodhound, Carlos Perez was apprehended after a brief foot chase on January 17th, 2025.
Deputy Rivera was conducting traffic enforcement in Davenport when he observed Perez’s vehicle exceeding the speed limit. When Deputy Rivera attempted to initiate a traffic stop, Perez sped away, eventually abandoning his car and fleeing on foot.

That’s when K-9 Cat and her handler were called to the scene.
Cat quickly picked up Perez’s scent and tracked him to his hiding spot in a wooded area. Faced with the determined bloodhound, Perez surrendered to deputies without further incident.
A subsequent investigation revealed that Perez’s driver’s license had been suspended since 2017, and his vehicle registration had expired almost a year ago.
