WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd has released initial information regarding a deputy-involved shooting that took place in the Oakwood Estates neighborhood of Winter Haven on Friday night, July 12, 2024, around 9:30 pm.

The incident began when a white male suspect arrived at his grandmother’s house in the community, and a disturbance ensued.

During the altercation, the suspect hit his grandmother with a vehicle, knocking her to the ground. She was immediately transported to Lakeland Regional Hospital as an emergency case.

The suspect fled the scene and intentionally rammed his vehicle into a deputy’s patrol car, who was in the process of responding to the incident.

Following the collision, the suspect exited his vehicle, and a confrontation occurred, leading the deputy to shoot the suspect. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheriff Judd stated that further details about the incident will be released tomorrow, July 13, 2024, as they become available.
