POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A Lake Alfred man is facing multiple felony charges, including attempted murder, after allegedly setting fire to a home with an infant and a cat inside during a domestic dispute.
On Thursday, October 24th, Polk County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a family disturbance call on Sunset Circle Lake in Lake Alfred. Upon arrival, they found the residence engulfed in flames. Deputies immediately evacuated the occupants of the burning home and neighboring residences.

Investigation Reveals Disturbing Details
According to the victim, she and 35-year-old Ronald Beasley Jr. had been arguing about his drug addiction. Fearing for her safety and that of her 4-month-old baby, she locked herself and the infant in the bathroom. Beasley Jr. broke into the bathroom but fled the house after the victim threatened to call 911.
A witness reported seeing Beasley Jr. exiting the backyard of the burning home and heard him say, “You need to go get the baby from inside the house because I just set it on fire.”
Tragically, the family cat was unable to escape the blaze and was found dead inside the home. Beasley Jr. was located a short distance away and taken into custody.

“Reckless Disregard for Life”
“This violent suspect’s actions put innocent lives in serious danger, and we are grateful that the victims made it out safely. Setting a fire in a home with a baby and family pet inside is not only reckless but shows a complete disregard for life. We are committed to pursuing justice for the victims and ensuring this suspect is held fully accountable for his actions,” said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.
Beasley Jr. has been charged with Attempted First Degree Murder, Animal Cruelty, False Imprisonment, and Tampering with a Witness. The State Fire Marshal has also charged him with First Degree Arson.
Beasley Jr. has a history of criminal convictions, including Possession of Methamphetamine, Felony Battery, Throwing a Deadly Missile into a Vehicle, and Domestic Violence.
