LAKELAND, Fla. – A Polk County man who spent a week evading authorities was finally apprehended Wednesday afternoon after inadvertently leading deputies straight to his doorstep. 40-year-old Lawrence Eugene Grampp Jr. was wanted on multiple warrants, including failure to appear for weekend work release on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving with a suspended license.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office had been searching for Grampp for a week when they received an unexpected break in the case. On Wednesday, January 22nd, at approximately 3:52 PM, a 911 call originated from Grampp’s residence on Cherry Road in Kathleen.

Deputies responded to the call and spotted Grampp inside the house. However, he refused to cooperate and remained inside for nearly an hour before finally surrendering.
Deputies spoke with a woman at the residence who confirmed there was no actual emergency. It remains unclear why Grampp, or the woman, placed the 911 call.
Grampp was arrested and booked into the Polk County Jail on his outstanding warrants. He is now facing additional charges related to resisting arrest.
