LAKELAND, Fla. – A Palm Harbor woman faces charges after repeatedly misusing the 911 emergency line to report a “stolen” vehicle that she knew was not stolen.
Alyssa Ayers, 31, was arrested by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office early Tuesday morning, March 11th, after making multiple calls to 911.
Ayers initially contacted 911 shortly after midnight from Christy Lane in Lakeland, claiming her vehicle had been stolen. She admitted to deputies that she had allowed a friend to borrow her car but was unable to reach him by phone.

According to deputies, during the initial call, Ayers was informed that her vehicle had not been involved in any accidents. She then requested assistance from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office to locate the car.
Deputies explained that this was not an emergency situation and that 911 should not be used for such matters. She was also told that it was a civil matter, not a law enforcement issue.
Less than an hour later, Ayers called 911 again, receiving the same information and being provided with the non-emergency number. Undeterred, Ayers called 911 a third time, requesting to speak with a different deputy and a supervisor.

This prompted a deputy to respond to her location, where Ayers admitted she knew she should not have contacted 911 as there was no emergency.
Ayers was arrested and transported to the Polk County Jail, charged with Misuse of 911.
