Broward County Circuit Judge Stefanie Moon is facing disciplinary action for making political contributions, adding to a pending reprimand from the Florida Supreme Court for unrelated allegations.

The Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission has accused Judge Moon of donating to political campaigns, including those of prominent Democrats like Kamala Harris and Joe Biden, as well as to the Democratic Party’s fundraising platform, ActBlue.

To resolve the matter, Judge Moon has reached an agreement with the Commission, which recommends a public reprimand and a fine equal to the total amount of her political contributions, totaling $2,115. The Commission believes this disciplinary action will serve as a deterrent and reinforce the importance of maintaining judicial integrity.

These allegations are separate from previous accusations of unprofessional behavior against Judge Moon. Those earlier allegations included reminding a counsel in open court about an unreturned phone call related to her reelection campaign and contacting a therapist involved in a mental health case.

In January, the Florida Supreme Court received a recommendation for a reprimand for Judge Moon based on these prior incidents.

The final decision regarding Judge Moon’s discipline rests with the Florida Supreme Court. The Judicial Qualifications Commission is responsible for investigating judicial conduct and providing recommendations.

A document from the Commission stated, “The commission believes that a public reprimand and fine will be sufficient to deter similar misconduct by the respondent (Moon) in the future and will also serve as a reminder to future candidates for judicial office that they must protect the integrity of judicial elections by refraining from inappropriate campaign activity and improper political contributions.”
