PLANT CITY, Fla. – Motorists traveling westbound on I-4 near Plant City this weekend should prepare for significant ramp closures. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced temporary closures of both the entrance and exit ramps for SR 39 (Alexander Street) and SR 39A (Wheeler Street/Paul Buchman Highway) on westbound I-4.
The closures are scheduled to begin at 9:00 PM on Friday, February 21, 2025, and will continue until 5:00 AM on Monday, February 24, 2025, weather permitting.
The closures are necessary for crews to perform paving operations and install overhead signs as part of a larger I-4 repaving project extending from east of McIntosh Road to County Line Road in Hillsborough County.

Detour Information:
- Westbound I-4 to SR 39A (Wheeler Street/Paul Buchman Highway): Drivers will need to exit at Exit 22, turn right onto Park Road, turn left onto North Frontage Road, continue under the I-4 overpass to South Frontage Road, and then proceed onto SR 39A.
- SR 39 (Alexander Street) or SR 39A (Wheeler Street/Paul Buchman Highway) to Westbound I-4: Motorists will be directed to enter I-4 using the eastbound entrance ramp, exit at Exit 21, turn left onto Park Road, and then re-enter the interstate using the westbound I-4 entrance ramp.
FDOT will have electronic message boards and signage in place to guide drivers through the detours. Motorists are urged to use caution while driving through the work zones and to be aware of construction workers.
