PLANT CITY, Fla. – A woman has died, and a man is critical after being shot on I-4 in Hillsborough County on Tuesday night in an apparent road rage incident.
On Thursday, Plant City Police released the name and photo of the female victim, 29-year-old Elizabeth Barbara Arrieta.
According to police, on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at approximately 9:12 p.m., a 911 call was received by the Plant City Police Department Communications Center.

The male caller said that he and a female passenger had been shot at while on Interstate 4. The caller then advised that he stopped his vehicle at Plant City Fire Rescue (PCFR) Station #3, located at 1704 N. Park Rd. Plant City, Florida.
PCFR personnel immediately provided first aid to both victims at the fire station. The female passenger sustained a fatal injury to the upper body area and died at the scene.
The male driver sustained upper body trauma and was transported to an area hospital where he is currently in critical condition.
Before his transport to the hospital, the male victim was able to tell police that a male driver of an unknown race who was driving a silver or gray Toyota Prius with non-tinted windows shot at his vehicle before exit #23 on Interstate 4.

The victim said that shortly before the shooting incident, the driver of the Toyota Prius was driving recklessly in traffic and exhibited road rage towards the victim for an unknown reason before shooting at the victim’s vehicle. After the shooting incident, the Prius continued eastbound on Interstate 4.
“At this time, this incident is believed to be an isolated incident, and there are no known active threats to the community,” said Plant City Police Department.
The Plant City Police Department is investigating this incident as a Homicide.
