The driver of the Ford Fusion failed to yield the right of way to the Dodge Durango prior to initiating the left turn.
As a result, the frontal area of the Dodge Durango struck the Ford Fusion on its passenger side as it entered the intersection.
At the time of the crash, the Ford Fusion was occupied by an adult male driver, an adult female front passenger, and three children ages three and under in the second row of the vehicle.
The children were seated in child restraint seats; however, none of the child restraint seats were fastened within the vehicle. All the occupants within the Ford Fusion were transported to Lakeland Regional Health for treatment.
The police officer in the Dodge Durango did not sustain any injuries due to the crash.
An independent witness relayed to police that they observed the Ford Fusion violate the right of way of the Dodge Durango before the crash and resulted in the reported crash sequence.
